Personne n'empi\u00e9tait sur les 100 acres que Samuel Berpa poss\u00e9dait dans le comt\u00e9 de Nimba, au nord-est du Liberia. Kou avait m\u00eame plant\u00e9 un peuplement d'h\u00e9v\u00e9as, une culture de grande valeur dans ce pays luxuriant d'Afrique de l'Ouest.<\/p>\n<p>Mais aujourd'hui, ses h\u00e9v\u00e9as sont en cendres, et Kou et sa m\u00e8re sont interdites d'acc\u00e8s \u00e0 leurs terres. \u00c0 la mort de Samuel en 2016, les oncles de Kou ont chass\u00e9 les femmes. Ils ont coup\u00e9 ses h\u00e9v\u00e9as et les ont br\u00fbl\u00e9s pour les vendre comme charbon de cuisine. Lorsque Kou a protest\u00e9, ses oncles ont r\u00e9pondu par des menaces.<\/p>\n<p>\"Ils m'ont dit que les femmes ne pouvaient pas parler des affaires fonci\u00e8res\", a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9. \"Ils m'ont dit que je n'avais pas le droit de parler de la terre et que si je continuais, ils pourraient essayer de me faire du mal.<\/p>\n<p>Malheureusement, l'exp\u00e9rience de Kou n'est pas rare au Liberia, o\u00f9 les droits \u00e0 la terre et \u00e0 l'h\u00e9ritage sont souvent transmis par tradition par les hommes, malgr\u00e9 la garantie de l'\u00e9galit\u00e9 des sexes dans la constitution du pays. Alors que le monde entier se r\u00e9unit pour \"faire pression pour le progr\u00e8s\" dans le cadre de la conf\u00e9rence de l\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationalwomensday.com\/Theme\">Journ\u00e9e internationale de la femme 8 mars<\/a>Le cas de Kou rappelle que les droits des femmes \u00e0 la terre et \u00e0 la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 sont bien trop souvent r\u00e9gis par des normes sociales r\u00e9gressives. En effet,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.landesa.org\/resources\/property-not-poverty\/\">dans plus de la moiti\u00e9 des pays<\/a>Les femmes se heurtent \u00e0 des obstacles juridiques ou coutumiers qui les emp\u00eachent d'exercer leurs droits \u00e0 la terre et \u00e0 l'h\u00e9ritage.<\/p>\n<p>Comme beaucoup de femmes dans les pays en d\u00e9veloppement, Kou d\u00e9pend de la terre pour vivre et de sa relation avec un parent masculin pour les droits sur cette terre - dans ce cas, son p\u00e8re. \u00c0 la mort de son p\u00e8re, ces droits ont disparu. Ses oncles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 cat\u00e9goriques : elle n'avait aucun droit sur la terre de son p\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>\"M\u00eame si je veux planter mon propre caoutchouc, mon caoutchouc personnel, ils m'ont dit que je ne devais pas le faire - parce que les femmes n'ont pas acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la propri\u00e9t\u00e9\", a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Mme Kou.<\/p>\n<p>Au lieu de cela, Kou a \u00e9t\u00e9 contrainte de d\u00e9m\u00e9nager dans une autre ville et a emprunt\u00e9 une petite parcelle de terre - moins d'un hectare - pour y planter du ma\u00efs. Elle verse au propri\u00e9taire une petite redevance pour l'utilisation du terrain et lui donne une partie des r\u00e9coltes qu'elle obtient. Mais elle h\u00e9site \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer la terre ou \u00e0 planter une culture de plus grande valeur, parce que ses droits sur la terre ne sont pas garantis. Le riz lui apporterait plus de revenus, mais elle craint que le propri\u00e9taire n'attende qu'elle ait d\u00e9frich\u00e9 la terre et se soit pr\u00e9par\u00e9e \u00e0 cultiver du riz, puis qu'il l'expulse pour pouvoir utiliser le sol pr\u00eat \u00e0 l'emploi.<\/p>\n<p>\"Je serais oblig\u00e9e de partir, parce que ce n'est pas \u00e0 moi\", a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Pour Kou, 42 ans, m\u00e8re c\u00e9libataire et grand-m\u00e8re, le seul moyen de gagner modestement sa vie est de travailler sur cette petite parcelle et de compter sur la bonne volont\u00e9 du propri\u00e9taire. Avec le produit de la vente, elle esp\u00e8re pouvoir payer les frais de scolarit\u00e9 de ses petits-enfants, Franklin, 6 ans, et Theo, 3 ans, qu'elle \u00e9l\u00e8ve pendant que son fils adulte travaille dans une autre ville.<\/p>\n<p>\"Je n'ai personne d'autre que moi. Je veux qu'ils aillent \u00e0 l'\u00e9cole pour apprendre \u00e0 me soutenir demain\", a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Mme Kou affirme que le Liberia pourrait changer de son vivant, mais seulement si son gouvernement adopte une l\u00e9gislation visant \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger les droits des femmes.<\/p>\n<p>\"Je veux que le gouvernement fasse respecter nos droits en mati\u00e8re de prise de d\u00e9cision (sur la terre)\", a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9. En ce qui concerne les affaires fonci\u00e8res, je veux que les femmes puissent d\u00e9tenir une partie de la terre comme leur propre propri\u00e9t\u00e9\".<\/p>\n<p>Alors que le Parlement lib\u00e9rien d\u00e9bat d'un projet de loi sur les droits fonciers qui pourrait garantir ces droits \u00e0 des millions de Lib\u00e9riens ruraux, une coalition de groupes de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 civile locale et d'organisations internationales telles que Landesa et d'autres s'efforcent de faire en sorte que le r\u00eave de M.
