The life of one of our colleagues from the Caribbean Women's Coalition of Caribbean Women is still at risk.
🟣On February 26 we shared the communiqué of our colleague Jemima Chica backed by the local women's group that she is part of, who denounced the imminent situation of risk in which she found herself due to the expiration of terms that let free the former governor Jorge Chica Alean.
🟤Yesterday, May 7, this risk materialized, targeting the lives of Jemima, two other women authorities of the cabildo and two minors, including Jemima's daughter. Several men forced their way into the Tambo, where Jemima was staying, and injured the leaders and the two minors.
These men sought to intimidate, frighten, and violate Jemima in order to delegitimize her authority in the cabildo and the complaints she has filed against the aggressor. These people insisted on former governor Chica's innocence, ignoring that his freedom was due to state negligence due to expiration of terms.
We reject the continuum of violence that Jemima and the women of the cabildo have faced after the denunciations made against this aggressor. We warn about the danger to which they are exposed and the urgency of taking the protective measures that this case deserves.
⭕We also urge the authorities to ensure the rights of Jemima Chica, her colleagues, and all women, in order to guarantee their right to a life of dignity and freedom from violence. #NotOneMoreNotOneLess.

La vida de una de nuestras compañeras de la Coalición de mujeres del Caribe sigue en riesgo.
🟣El 26 de febrero compartimos el comunicado de nuestra compañera Jemima Chica respalda por el proceso local de mujeres del que ella hace parte, quien denunciaba la inminente situación de riesgo en la que se encontraba por el vencimiento de términos que dejó en libertad al exgobernador indígena Jorge Chica Alean.
🟤Ayer 7 de mayo este riesgo se materializó comprometiendo la vida de Jemima, de otras dos mujeres autoridades del cabildo y dos menores de edad, entre las que se encuentra la hija de Jemima. Varios hombres entraron por la fuerza al Tambo, donde se encontraba Jemima, e hirieron a las lideresas y a lxs dos menores.
Estos hombres buscaban intimidar, amedrantar y violentar a Jemima para deslegitimar su autoridad en el cabildo y las denuncias que ha interpuesto contra el agresor. Estas personas insistían en la inocencia de Chica, desconociendo que su libertad se debía a la negligencia estatal por vencimiento de términos.
‼️Rechazamos el continuum de violencias al que se ha enfrentado Jemima y las mujeres del cabildo tras las denuncias realizadas contra este agresor. Alertamos sobre el peligro al que se encuentran expuestas y la urgencia de tomar las medidas de protección que amerita este caso.
⭕De igual manera exhortamos a las autoridades a velar por los derechos de Jemima Chica, sus compañeras y de todas las mujeres, para así garantizar su derecho a una vida digna y libre de violencias. #NiUnaMasNiUnaMenos.
